Personal care aids with activities of daily living (ADLs) to encourage and support. This is a key responsibility when providing personal care.

Examples of ADLs

  • Showering & Bathing-assist to ensure safety entering and exiting the shower and completing personal care tasks while ensuring your loved one feels safe and comfortable.  
  • Assist in dressing providing the right amount of assistance while encouraging independence and respecting privacy.
  • Toileting: Using the restroom can be difficult due to mobility limitations or pain. Personal care givers will be discreet while keeping your loved one safe.
  • Mobility and Transferring: Moving around safely within the home is essential for maintaining independence. Personal care providers can offer support with activities like walking, transferring from bed to chair, or navigating stairs. They may also assist with using canes, walkers, or other mobility aids.
  • Meal Preparation, Nutrition and Support: Eating nutritious meals is vital for overall health. Personal care providers can assist with meal preparation, shopping and feeding your loved one if needed. They can also ensure any special diets are followed.
  • Medication Reminders: Personal care providers can offer medication reminders and when needed alert the Director of Nursing with any prescription refill needs or concerns.

Documentation: All Caregivers are required to document shift notes and track specifics per care plan such as vitals, intake of fluids and nutrition, etc.
